New guy here. Based on the recommendations in Scott Baker's $four Kindle ebook, I bought DNS thirteen Premium, a Plantronics headset, and a $45 Sony digital voice recorder.
I set the programme upwardly on my figurer to ONLY dictate into Notepad, and not perform whatsoever "commands" about opening or closing web pages, sending emails, etc.
My first exam was reading a 1000-word passage from my 1996 novel, Unintended Consequences. A yard total of Four modest errors, things similar confusing "then" with "than." I was utterly blown away.
The problem is when I try to import an MP3 file from the Sony, I get an fault bulletin saying Dragon tin can't work with information technology.
"DNS does non back up the supplied sound format. Delight make certain that you are using an audio device that delivers eleven.025-99.000 khz sixteen-bit audio"
I realize I might need a better voice recorder to get good results, but shouldn't Dragon put something on the screen with my setup? It is an mp3 file, later all...

Just because you lot purchased Scott Baker'southward book doesn't hateful he is an practiced, qualified or even up to date. If he had known what he was talking about, he never would've recommended the consumer version of Premium 13 which is and then far out of appointment that yous shouldn't have even been able to find it. Our 1st recommendation would be to render your buy because it was the incorrect version and edition. If your reseller won't accept it dorsum (and they probably won't), call Dash (800) 654-1187 for a full refund (if yous purchased within the last 30 days). You will find far more real experts on this forum, which is ever upwards-to-date and full of people who really use Dragon. Spoken communication recognition applied science moves ahead at a neck breaking speed. For openers, DPI 15.3 is the only version of Dragon you should consider using. It is the 1st version of Dragon that was designed specifically for transcribing recorders, is not gender specific (like Premium xiii) and does non include a training option because it is no longer necessary. Dragon xv introduced an entirely different spoken communication engine. How'south that for a giant engineering jump? Assuming Scott Baker'southward recommendations are 6 years out of date, he still should've recommended a Professional person edition of Dragon which additionally includes the AutoTranscribe Folder Amanuensis just we will allow you practise the research on that one. Allow'due south go to your questions:
Premium 13 and higher are capable of transcribing MP3 files but you are just choosing an incompatible format. We can't tell y'all what y'all're doing wrong but it might be something as simple equally attempting to transcribe a stereo recording
You lot wasted your time reading a 1000 word passage because training no longer makes any divergence or is even permitted. Your training cannot be transferred to Ver. xv and shouldn't. It sounds similar you caused very good accuracy but trust us, it tin be better.
You don't need a better recorder or DPI 15.iii simply both are recommended. Nevertheless, your Sony recorder should work.

Thanks for your very comprehensive respond. I bought DNS 1.0 in 1997 for $200 IIRC, and it was, for me, unusable. Correcting all the errors took longer than typing out everything perfectly the first time, and I'chiliad a mediocre typist at all-time.
When I recently started doing research on the current state of spoken communication recognition, I found a LOT of one-star reviews from people who had bought DNS version 15 and said they wished they'd never left version xiii. Mayhap they wouldn't have complained if they'd had version 15.3...?
I do not, at this indicate, desire to supercede my operating system on my desktop pc with Windows x. Volition the version 15.3 you describe piece of work well on windows seven pro 64-bit? I may buy a laptop running windows 10. Am I allowed to install the version 15.iii that you lot sell on both devices?
FWIW Scott Baker DOES recommend DNS Version 15.iii in his book, which he updates regularly. The high price of version fifteen (not 15.3) combined with the large number of people who said they hated it (and that Dragon customer support was TERRIBLE) acquired me to buy version 13, which on DVD was $54.
My Sony ICD-PX370 is indeed a Mono recorder. I don't know what I'g doing incorrect. It records in mp3, and DNS v13 says it supports that.

Dragon 3.52 was the 1st version of Dragon that was usable merely far from ideal. Unfortunately, 95% of Dragon Internet reviews are completely unqualified. Also note that for the well-nigh office, the vast majority of people who post their unqualified reviews are terminate-users with bad experiences; mostly considering they really don't know how to use Dragon. Happy cease-users are unlikely to post a review. Dragon 15 is an entirely different animal than previous versions of Dragon. The hardware is also critical. Most stop-users think they will be fine with that Office Depot Plantronics microphone. Having said that, there was one very serious defect in Ver. 15.0. Most terminate-users experienced a Jumping Cursor problem in both Microsoft Discussion and Outlook. This was inexcusable and should've been caught by beta testers, which unfortunately, Nuance hasn't used since Ver. 13. fifteen.iii includes a set up, that took xv months to develop but information technology is not going to piece of work for everyone using Word or Outlook 2019. Group and Medical versions of Dragon have already been patched. DPI xv.three is due to exist patched, quondam this summer, to Ver fifteen.5. All of these patches are gratis. From a Dragon point of view, Windows vii is no dissimilar than Windows ten but at some point, you will however want to upgrade to Windows x. DPI 15 is only licensed to yous simply you are permitted to install on up to 5 computers. The same holds true for your Premium 13. Dragon support, which is outsourced to India, has always been underwhelming. Continue in mind that level I technical back up doesn't use Dragon so their back up is not surprising. Level II is considerably better but it takes a few weeks to get bumped up to level Ii. Level III technical back up is very adept, because you are talking to Dragon developers, which licensed Dragon resellers have direct admission to just there are only two and extremely difficult to reach; like ii months. We suspect you purchased Premium 13 which was a huge mistake; especially when y'all consider that DPI xv.3 is a Professional version of Dragon that is half the cost of Pro xiii. In our opinion, this was a colossal error. You are missing a lot of capabilities, every bit previously pointed out. Most notably, one of Dragon xv's best features is information technology's ability to transcribe all voices rather than just a trained vocalization; even an interview. You probably won't notice that information, on the Internet, from a "qualified" negative mail. As previously noted, Ver. fifteen is an entirely different animal and sometimes referred to as the digital recorder version of Dragon. If you want to transcribe recordings, DPI 15.3 was your only real pick. The most probable reason why yous were able to purchase Premium xiii for $54 is because it'due south a 7-year-onetime consumer version of Dragon. Back up on this forum is the best of the all-time and most of us are using Ver. 15 because it is significantly better than Ver. thirteen or Ver. xiv. For openers, it's twice equally fast and merely uses half of the resources that other versions of Dragon required. This is merely the tip of the iceberg you lot are missing but please don't trust Internet reviews unless they are released by bodily professional person reviewers who use Dragon every day, rather than just taking that car for a examination run. Nearly MP3 settings will not work with Dragon and a Speech Professional reseller can at to the lowest degree bespeak you in the right direction. If you actually want to see how expert Dragon fifteen is, contact u.s.a. through our Live Chat and w

John,
Your Sony recorder may output a specific blazon of MP3. Variable bit rate instead of constant chip rate, 32.000 khz (or less since it's mono) instead of the standard 44.100 khz.
A very elementary solution would be to import the MP3 file in the free Brazenness editor and then consign it as Wave file (which will exist supported past Dragon).
